Kaupthing identifies Executive Chairman and Chief Executive candidates
The Winding-up Committee of Kaupthing hf. has identified candidates for the posts of Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer as part of the planning for a potential Composition Proposal, which would see Kaupthing come out of the winding-up process.
If a Composition Proposal is proposed and approved by the requisite majority of creditors, the Chairman candidate, along with other members of a proposed Board, will be nominated at a Shareholders Meeting and the Board will be constituted post Composition. The Board would then formally appoint the new CEO.
Eugene Davis, who is an expert in debtor and creditor side restructuring assignments across various sectors including Financial Services, will be nominated as Executive Chairman. Mr Davis is a US citizen who began his career as a lawyer specialising in corporate and securities law before moving into business and holding various senior positions in companies. Since 1999, Mr Davis has held senior roles in managing numerous debtor and creditor side restructuring assignments involving businesses in various industries, including being Executive Chairman of Capmark Financial, Chairman of Atlas Air Worldwide, Trustee of ContiFinancial Liquidating Trust, Chairman of General Chemical, Director of Delta Airlines and Director of US Power Gen.
Matthew Turner, the former International Head of Global Private Equity at Merrill Lynch, will be nominated as Chief Executive. Mr Turner also began his career as a lawyer, before moving into private equity and working across a number of sectors and in various restructuring situations.
The candidates were identified by the Winding-up Committee in consultation with the Informal Creditors Committee after a comprehensive search process conducted by an international search firm. Both Mr Davis and Mr Turner will commence work immediately under consultancy contracts. The Winding-up Committee is continuing the process to identify the remaining candidates for the proposed Board and details of any proposed candidates will be provided in due course.
